On Thursday 10 May at 03.30, I ended up in hospital as I woke up with excruciating pains, blood in my urine with a small amount of bleeding. I was a bit scared as I thought I was in labour - I was only 27 weeks. We called my Mum, so she came to look after the boys.
On arrival, I was hooked up to the monitor to check the pain. It showed I wasn’t contracting, so felt that it must just be stronger Braxton Hicks. I was given a scan to check on baby, who turned out to be absolutely fine. So for most of the day I was sitting up in bed, hooked up to a fluid drip, catheter and BP monitor as my BP was a bit high. I had the catheter as my urine infection had come back and I wasn’t able to move. I spent most of the time feeling Hollie poking out her elbows/arms etc. The pains came and went, but I was able to breathe through them.
By around 4pm, the pains came back and were stronger. I was quickly put on the monitor to check and it showed I was now contracting, although not much. On speaking with the consultant I was told that if they got stronger, then they would have to deliver Hollie to save her from getting too distressed -there was also the issue with my blood pressure too.
At 6pm I was in agony and my waters broke quite dramatically. I never noticed until Stuart said it looked as if I had wet myself! I looked down and sure enough, the bedsheet was wet. I was now in labour and by 6.15pm I was fully dilated… our girl was on her way and quite fast!!
At 6.45pm we were taken into the delivery suite, as I was now strongly contracting. After 30 minutes of intense pushing and breathing, using gas and air. our gorgeous girl was born at 7.15pm.
I saw her very briefly as she was warmed up and taken through to the neo-natal ward. I also heard a little cry, so I knew she would be OK.
She is to be in there for at least 6 weeks, or until she puts on enough weight. She is being fed through a tube as well as getting oxygen and steroids to help with her lungs etc. The staff are so incredible and say she is doing exceptionally well. When I first went in to be with her, I put my hand in to hold her hand as she gently curled her fingers round mine, which was such a great feeling.
I am completely in love with her. I’m so pleased it was a quick and pretty easy labour. Stuart was so amazing and never left my side from the second we came into hospital. I don’t think he expected to become a Dad at the end of it though, but he is ecstatic and loves her to pieces!
I’m doing fine. I’ve still got the catheter in and on medication for my urine infection. I’ve to stay in hospital until it’s all cleared up. I hope to be moved to a private room that is closer to the neonatal ward, so I can be with Hollie every day.
I hope to be on here, in between resting and being with Hollie.
Becky

Glad you're both doing well. The staff on neonal units do such a fantastic job. I'm sure it won't be long until you can go home and then your little girl will be with you before you know it x
