I love personal and home made items and especially love this fused glass & wood set by Claire Waters. Each piece created is unique and hand crafted by herself. The timber used for frame work and bases are from a local timber merchant using traditional British timbers. Look at Claire Waters products online .

Jewellery is always a romantic Valentine  contender. Without knowing a ring size you can feel sure this will be a winner. Blooms of sterling silver dangle from beautiful blue lace agate beads to create a Gypsy Rose bracelet. Matching items are available from Kit Heath.

Gifts That Last A Lifetime

Handprint NecklaceThe birth of a new child is naturally one of the most momentous occasions we will experience in our lifetime.

Alongside the usual presents – the clothes, toys and flowers - you may also want to invest in a gift more permanent as a lifelong memento. A keepsake that will not only celebrate their birth but be something either you or they can cherish their whole lives.

Personalised Jewellery

A handmade, lovingly crafted piece of silver jewellery can last a lifetime and if it is personalised, the story carried in the precious metal can be carried by the wearer throughout their lives. The piece can be customised with a symbol, a name, initials or favourite saying. Joulberry features an impressive range of fingerprint jewellery, which can contain the fingerprint (or handprint or footprint) of a loved child. The process to capture the tender print is very easy and results in a truly heartwarming gift for either the parents, the child to carry as they get older or for relatives.

Plant a tree

Planting a tree is not only a wonderful gesture and a lifelong gift but also great for the environment. You can plant a sappling in a forest and receive a certificate in their name. We suggest trying the Heart of England “Plant a Sapling” scheme. In future, everytime you take a walk in the beautiful wood you can watch the tree grow in strength and maturity alongside your new arrival.

Name a Rose

orange roseIf you love flowers like us this is a super gift. You can name a beautiful rose after the new born child and receive a packet of unique seeds, which you could sow in your garden. The rose is added to a national database so you can be sure it is a one-of-a-kind. The seeds are sent with a certificate and a unique database number.

Name a Star

Prince William, Leo Blair, Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes (named by actor Michael Baldwin), and Brooklyn Beckham (named for David and Victoria Beckham by Emma Bunton) have all had stars named after them. The International Star Registry is the world’s database of star names. Since there are more stars in the galaxy than people on our planet we’re unlikely to run out any time soon and of course, barring a supernova, you can guarantee they will last a lifetime. (Be aware the star naming is not officially sanctioned by the International Astronomical Union.

Christmas Gifts and Toys

Annoying MonstersThese Annoying Monsters from 50 Fifty Toys really are infuriating and well …… annoying! They burp, they fart, you name it, they do it! Each of the bright, cheeky characters has its own name and has seriously irritating habits that will annoy the hell out of Mum & Dad and endear them forever to your little ones. These gobby Annoying Monsters are fun Christmas presents to give to kids and I would say if you gave one to say your 6 year old nephew you would be the World’s fave Aunty! Our reviewers’ children loved them too! Read what they think of Annoying Monsters.

Freya Design Sewing BoxLove this Sewing Box from Freya Design .  Let’s be fair, most of us have sewing stuff around the house but how many of us actually have a proper sewing box? I have an old Quality Street tin and my Mum has an old Roses tin. (There’s a theme here I think.) Freya has some really lovely boxes for all sorts of different occasions and the best thing is that they can all be personalised. Am considering getting a Jewellery Box for my niece from Freya!

Dinosaur ClockI love this Friendly Dinosaur Wall Clock from Kids’ Rooms . It doesn’t just look good but it’s useful too and us Mums love buying toys with a dual-purpose. It’s a lovely accessory for a boy’s bedroom although even as I type that I can hear how sexist that sounds. It’s hand-painted and as it’s got a silent mechanism, your little ones won’t moan about the ticking keeping them awake. And we all know how much children love any excuse not to go to sleep.

BrainBox Games have got so many brilliant games that it’s difficult to single one World History Brainbox Gamesout really. Their games tend to bring plenty of fun to learning and help teach vital skills along with a bit of healthy competition! Children love learning about stuff that happened in the ‘olden days’ and World History is a brilliant way for the kids to learn about everything from the Greeks capturing Troy to the first moon landing!

If you’re one of the many people tightening the pursestrings through necessity this year thPaolo Penguin Thorntonsen Wilkinsons  is a really good shop to try and visit. Whether you’re doing Xmas on a Budget or simply being sensible, then it’s worth taking a look. Some incredibly good value-for-money toddler toys in particular there!

Paolo ThePenguin from Thorntons would make a lovely little stocking filler. He’s a cute & cuddly penguin toy full of Thorntons milk chocolate penguins and not a bad price too.
