Cooking From Scratch

Kayleigh and Ethan cooking2012 sees the start of a New Year and the start of a new us as a family.

As a working mum of 2 I admit I used to be lazy when it came to food, convenient was the best way forward as far as I was concerned. However that has all changed with the New Year.

Since returning to work after Ethan (baby number 2)in March last year, I have put on over a stone in weight simply because of the junk food I would eat at work or the fact of convenient take away after a long day at work. I wasn’t happy and I most certainly wasn’t healthy so Kayleigh loving bakingsomething had to change and we took the decision as a family to get healthy.

The kids used to eat healthily throughout the day but then my partner and I would binge once they had gone to bed on a takeaway or sweets and fizzy drink so one priority was to make sure we all sat down as a family to eat something healthy together. Maybe it’s not a big priority to others but it is to me to have that bit of quality time where we can chat about the day and just spend some time together as a family.

Ethan bakingAnother thing we are tackling is our eating habits. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen with Kayleigh and Ethan baking cakes and sweet things however my savoury cooking left a lot to be desired! So we got a fab cookbook and have been slowly but surely working our way through it trying lots of new food and flavours along the way and so far so good! As of the 1st January 2012 every meal cooked in this house has been from scratch with no pre-made sauces or a take-away in sight!

It’s not always easy after a day at work to cook when you get in, but it’s certainly more rewarding to enjoy eating something you made yourself  and see a table full of clear plates!

Move over Nigella because here I come!
