Personalised Mobile Phone Skins

Mobile Phone SkinWe’ve just added a new shop to our site where you can buy personalised phone skins, laptop skins, iPad skins and iPod skins.

We think the skins would make really good Christmas presents and they’re not a bad price too. What Granny wouldn’t like a pic of the new addition to the family on her phone? I’m thinking on having a pic of my 3 gorgeous girls on my laptop. Will post the pic once it’s done!

Christmas Gifts and Toys

Annoying MonstersThese Annoying Monsters from 50 Fifty Toys really are infuriating and well …… annoying! They burp, they fart, you name it, they do it! Each of the bright, cheeky characters has its own name and has seriously irritating habits that will annoy the hell out of Mum & Dad and endear them forever to your little ones. These gobby Annoying Monsters are fun Christmas presents to give to kids and I would say if you gave one to say your 6 year old nephew you would be the World’s fave Aunty! Our reviewers’ children loved them too! Read what they think of Annoying Monsters.

Freya Design Sewing BoxLove this Sewing Box from Freya Design .  Let’s be fair, most of us have sewing stuff around the house but how many of us actually have a proper sewing box? I have an old Quality Street tin and my Mum has an old Roses tin. (There’s a theme here I think.) Freya has some really lovely boxes for all sorts of different occasions and the best thing is that they can all be personalised. Am considering getting a Jewellery Box for my niece from Freya!

Dinosaur ClockI love this Friendly Dinosaur Wall Clock from Kids’ Rooms . It doesn’t just look good but it’s useful too and us Mums love buying toys with a dual-purpose. It’s a lovely accessory for a boy’s bedroom although even as I type that I can hear how sexist that sounds. It’s hand-painted and as it’s got a silent mechanism, your little ones won’t moan about the ticking keeping them awake. And we all know how much children love any excuse not to go to sleep.

BrainBox Games have got so many brilliant games that it’s difficult to single one World History Brainbox Gamesout really. Their games tend to bring plenty of fun to learning and help teach vital skills along with a bit of healthy competition! Children love learning about stuff that happened in the ‘olden days’ and World History is a brilliant way for the kids to learn about everything from the Greeks capturing Troy to the first moon landing!

If you’re one of the many people tightening the pursestrings through necessity this year thPaolo Penguin Thorntonsen Wilkinsons  is a really good shop to try and visit. Whether you’re doing Xmas on a Budget or simply being sensible, then it’s worth taking a look. Some incredibly good value-for-money toddler toys in particular there!

Paolo ThePenguin from Thorntons would make a lovely little stocking filler. He’s a cute & cuddly penguin toy full of Thorntons milk chocolate penguins and not a bad price too.

PS:
Bjorn BearThe IKEA Soft Toy Campaign aims to raise funds for children’s educational programmes across the world. For every soft toy, kids meal and book bought in stores up until December 23rd, the IKEA Foundation will donate €1 to UNICEF and Save The Children!  The soft toy range has loads of really cute products including this year’s special bear, BJORN who even has his own Twitter feed – @Bjorn_Bear . Bjorn’s a snip at 99p!!!

Digital Cameras At Currys

Samsung Red CameraI’ve been racking my brains trying to think what I could buy for Meg, my 18 year old daughter, for Christmas.

She’s on a Gap Year at the moment trying to earn enough money to go travelling next year so I know she’d really appreciate a camera. She’s had a few cameras in her time already, mind you. One Digital Camera got dropped by a ‘friend’ when she was bouncing on a trampoline at a party (oops …. apparently we have to call them ‘gatherings’!). Her last camera got stolen at a Foam Party in Magaluf! No comment……

Anyway I just Googled Digital Cameras and Currys came up near the top of the first page. There were a couple of other companies there but Currys is as reliable a name as any so that’s the site I chose to go to.

The link to Cameras was easy to see in the top tab. I clicked it and from there clicked the Drop Box to Compact Digital Cameras. I started off by browsing in the ‘Most Popular’ range but then I remembered that her last 2 cameras had been Samsungs, so I just clicked to view by Brand ‘Samsung’ and off I went……

One of the main things I was looking for in the camera was size. I knew one of Meg’s criteria for a camera is that it has to fit in her (supersmall) bag when she goes out on the town with her mates.  The Samsung ST90 Compact Digital Camera is less than 17mm thick so it will easily fit into a small bag or even a pocket. It’s a pretty good price too though I’m always a bit sceptical when I see ‘Was £199.99  – Now £69.99′! It was a bit of a no-brainer to be honest and so easy to make my choice. I chose the camera in less than 5 minutes and then all I had to do was say Red or Black. There was plenty of additional information to click on for any camera buffs who want all the ins and outs. I was happy seeing 14.2 megapixels – I’m very easily pleased! Once I’d clicked on Buy, I was asked if I wanted to Go To Checkout so I did. It was brilliant seeing Home Delivery was Free. I hate getting to the Checkout and then finding extortionate delivery charges being imposed.

I was a New Customer so I had to fill in my contact details before I was taken to the Payment Page and hey presto one more Christmas present ticked off my Shopping List!

Currys LogoThe Currys site is really fresh, bright and uncluttered and so simply to navigate. The home page was quick to load as were all subsequent ones so I know this is a site I will definitely visit again. Going from shopping to Checkout to Payment was about as easy as it gets when Home Shopping and I’ve got to say I was pleasantly surprised. So often it’s hard to find what you’re looking for on websites and then when you find it, it’s a nightmare going through the checkout and paying.

It was a refreshing change to see things made so easy online!

PS: Did a quick check here to see if there were any good Voucher Codes for Currys but couldn’t find one…   There are loads of others though if you’re looking for good Voucher Codes or Discount Codes.

Build-A-Bear Workshop Review

children with their own Build A Bear teddiesA visit to a Build A Bear Workshop® isn’t just about making bears, it’s about making memories too!  Mum of 3 Sian says she ‘would recommend this treat or experience for every child’.

Here’s what Sian says about her recent trip to the Build-a-Bear Workshop store in Cardiff……..

“We were met by a very friendly member of staff, who interacted immediately with all three of our children (boy of 5 and two girls almost 4 and 2). They were then given a sticker with their name on it which made them feel important straight away, and then asked to choose their special teddy to ‘bring Amber with her bearto life’.

The member of staff made the process of stuffing the teddy, giving it a heart and a voice / music a very magical experience.  It really was lovely to see the kids so drawn in and hanging on her every word. They were asked to make a wish and we all kissed the heart before it was put inside the teddy and filled.

At the back of the shop, there was a grooming station where all our children brushed and blow-dried their teddies. Our children all chose clothes for their teddies too and were helped to dress them. As the Aimee with her Hello Kitty Bearchildren were so young my husband input their details for birth registration of all bears with their new names on the computer (of which they had three or four) which we can access online on their interactive site Bearville.com.

When settling up, the childrens’ bears each came in a special house cardboard box (which can be coloured), with stickers, colouring book, birth certificate and other leaflets with discount vouchers and their online website. There was also a wishing tree where the children used a sticker to register their wish!

The whole experience was special for all three children and us (as parents) to bears from the Build-A-Bear Workshopsee all children enjoy and cherish their bears. At first I initially thought it was a bit pricey but on reflection the whole experience was worth every penny. The average size bears were a little more than buying off the shelf (branded bears) but choosing their individual clothes and bringing then to life justifies the price difference. And also, you can set your limit yourself too and make it as cheap or expensive as you wish. There really was a huge selection of outfits and accessories with seasonal specials / special events, Xmas, summer, Pudseys, which you can purchDominic with his koala from Build-A-Bear Workshopase if you want.

When we initially told our children we were going to Build-A-Bear, my son’s reaction made me question whether a teddy was too young for a boy of five as he asked if there would be dinosaurs or transformers! But he enjoyed absolutely every second and his koala bear already has a special place.

I highly recommend Build A Bear Workshop® and genuinely feel it is worth every penny!”

Children in Need Pudseys at Build A Bear Workshop®

Pudsey Children In NeedYay! Pudsey and his ‘Best Friend’ Blush Bear are back in the Build-A-Bear Workshop®.

Build-A-Bear Workshop has joined up with BBC Children in Need once again to give everyone the opportunity to make their own Pudsey and Blush Bear.

Last year’s Build A Bear Workshop® campaign sold over 11,500 bears and £5 from the sale of each Pudsey and Blush Bear goes directly back to the Children in Need appeal.  New for this year is a fab new Pudsey, who has been re-designed to feature a beary cute spotted heart, a t-shirt with an all new BBC Children in Need design and a pair of Pudsey slippers and pyjamas. Blush has had a make-over too with a beary pretty new pinafore dress. An additional £1 from the sale of the t-shirt, slippers, pyjamas and dress will also be donated back to the charity.

In 2010, Build-A-Bear Workshop donated £135,000 to BBC Children in Need through the sale of Pudsey and Blush Bear and this year they’re hoping to do even better with the addition of new clothing for the furry pair. Every penny raised helps to make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK.

Build-A-Bear Workshop is based on the idea that virtually everyone, regardless of age, has a soft spot for stuffed animals. When you visit Build-A-Bear Workshop stores, you enter a light-hearted teddy-bear-themed environment. Guests can make and stuff their own ‘bear’, add a heart – a Build-A-Bear Workshop trademark – and if you choose, you can dress them in cute little outfits.

Guests can also play together online for free with their new furry friends at Bearville.com™, the company’s virtual world and entertainment destination.
Guests who purchase a Pudsey or Blush Bear can also register them at Bearville.com.

Carrie Green, a spokeswoman for BBC Children in Need, said “We are very excited to be working with Build-A-Bear Workshop for the fourth year running. Children are at the heart of our charity and it’s wonderful for kids and adults alike to be able to make their very own Pudsey and Blush Bear mascot”.

Anyone can support the cause by purchasing a Pudsey or Blush Bear from any Build-A-Bear Workshop store nationwide or from the company’s website at www.buildabear.co.uk.

Baby Monitors: Not Just for Monitoring Baby!

Happy BabyMost of us know that baby monitors are designed to help parents monitor their little ones. However, when the baby monitor is not in use, there are many other ways that it could help you out.

What’s cooking? You may have something in the oven, and your baby is screaming for your attention or you need to take a phone call. You could simply set up the monitor near the oven in a safe place, and carry the parent unit with you wherever you go in your house so that you will still be able to hear the oven timer go off when dinner is ready!

Your other child is sick. If you have a child who is unwell and wants to stay in bed, you can set up the monitor near them and carry the parent unit around the house with you. This way your child can easily get your attention if they need anything, and you will also be able to hear other noises such as coughing which may indicate that they need your assistance.

Check the temperature. I have heard of mums who used the monitor (one with temperature display feature) for checking the temperature outside in the shade so they would know if it was too hot for their little one.

Summer Infant MonitorYour other child needs reassurance. For this one you are best to have a video baby monitor which allows for more than one camera. This means that you can have one camera in baby’s room and one in the other child’s room. When the other child goes to bed, they can then be reassured that they only need to speak if they require your attention. You will be able to hear and see them via the monitor.

I’ll finish off with a few benefits of using a baby monitor to monitor your little one. There are many benefits, but here are a select few of them:

  • Can help parents to bond with their baby, especially if the monitor has talkback feature. This feature allows the parent to communicate with baby via the parent unit.
  • Portable baby monitors allow parents to get on with the house duties, and if baby cries they should hear them easily through the baby monitor.
  • Provides the parents with peace of mind, especially when baby has just started sleeping in her own room.

Remember The Milkman?

milk&moreAs a kid I clearly remember hearing the clink clink of the old glass milk bottles when the milk floats used to do their rounds in the wee small hours.  Then, for whatever reason they seemed to disappear off the radar for years.

However, little do many of us know that the good old fashioned Milkman is back with a vengeance and not only that; he’s got some cracking good deals up his sleeve too.

milk&more is the online website for the well-known Dairy Crest and nowadays and it’s more than just the milk and cream they deliver.  There’s a food shopping online catalogue of over 250 everyday essentials that can now be delivered to your door, and not only that, there’s no minimum order – and no having to book and pay for delivery slots either.  Whatsmore, you can order up till 9pm the day before your delivery.

Whether you need Kingsmill Bread and Kelloggs Cereals, New Covent Garden Soups or Walkers Crisps, some Cathedral City Cheese and Ferrero Rocher Chocolates, or even pet food online, they’re all there.

Cheese, anyone?

Some cheese, anyone?

I did some sums earlier and compared a small top-up shop with a similar one using a well known supermarket brand.  To be quite honest, because of the free delivery offered by milk&more, there was hardly any difference in price.  If I’d taken the car to get it, it would have cost even more!

So, there we have it! I think it is great but don’t just take my word for it, get online and try milk&more yourself…

While we’re here, did you know?…..

  • Sean Connery and Marco Pierre White have both been milkmen in the past
  • Former Spice Girl Emma Bunton’s father was a milkman
  • Orlando Bloom played milkman Jimmy in the 2004 film Calcium Kid
  • You can learn to drive and sit your driving test on an electric milk float (this gives you a group one driving licence)
  • Electric milk floats can reach up to 20mph
  • St Brigid of Ireland is the patron saint of dairy workers, including milkmen
  • Benny Hill’s ‘Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West)’ was at number one for four weeks and stayed in the charts for seventeen weeks in 1971
  • In 2006 Conservative party leader, David Cameron, picked Benny Hill’s ‘Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in the West)’ as one of his eight records on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs

Phew!  What a wealth of milkman knowledge I am.

Customised Clothes for Kids from Printed Wardrobe

Dino T-ShirtI just discovered a great site for Customised T-Shirts & Hoodies for children called Printed Wardrobe. Apparently the Kids and Babies part of their site is new and they’re so keen to promote it in the run up to Christmas that they are offering a Discount Code PWKIDS20 of 20% off all orders till the end of the year, for members of TheBabyWebsite!

I particularly liked this turquoise t-shirt with a farting dinosaur and I think my 3 year old nephew Harry will be dead chuffed with it!

You can go onto their site and create your own design from scratch if you want to. You just choose the item of clothing you want and go from there. Sheep SweatshirtSo you could, for example, choose a pink Hoodie, add your own text, photos or graphics in whatever colour or font you want. You can have a design on the front and on the back and let your imagination run riot. I tend to play it safe when I’m ordering for gifts but I think I’ll be a bit more daring next time.

Customised tees, tops and hoodies are really popular right now and I reckon Printed Wardrobe will get a lot of takers with this brilliant Discount Code PWKIDS20 of 20% off all orders!

Tesco Vouchers Winner

The Random.org DrawWell, we bet all you who commented in our Tesco Comp Blog are dying to know who the lucky winner is and how did we choose.

Well, it’s very simple really:  Firstly we take a look at how many entrants there were (127) and arrange them all in chronological order.  We then use a tool at Random.org and enter the total number in their random number generator.  This then chooses a completely random number between 1 and 127.  In this case it generated the number 14.  The person who is 14th on the list (starting from from day one) is the winner.  Simple as that!

And so the winner is… (cue the drumroll!) ….. JENNA KELLER !

Congratulations! The vouchers will be in the post tomorrow Jenna!
