Kate Penland told reporters that as the plane was heading down the runway, her toddler Garren started saying 'Bye, Bye Plane'. According to Penland a stewardess put up with so much and then told her, 'It's not funny anymore. You need to shut your baby up'. In case there was any confusion, the stewardess then told her exactly how she might do this by adding; 'You know, it's called baby Benadryl'.
The toddler's mother told the crew member in no uncertain terms that she 'was not going to drug my child so you have a pleasant flight'. This remark resulted in the stewardess ordering for the plane to be turned around so that the mother and child could be taken off.
'I was crying, I was upset and I was thinking, 'What am I going to do? I don't have anything with me, I don't have any more diapers for the baby, no juice, no milk,' Mrs Penland told WSB-TV in Atlanta. A spokesperson for Continental Airlines said they were looking into the matter.
