Summer Picnic Ideas all Wrapped Up by Baco
With school holidays around the corner, how can you keep children entertained throughout the long summer break?

Whatever you do for a fun family day out, why not take a picnic? Preparing your own food ensures that you can provide a healthy and nutritional meal for the family. A picnic is also a great way to keep the kids entertained - simply going to the local park, river bank or even eating in your own garden can be a great way to spend the day.

Getting children to eat healthy food can be a challenge. Get children involved by asking them to choose and pack their own picnic items from a selection of healthy alternatives to the traditional crisps and chocolate bars.

See the food ideas below for more inspiration.

Bullet Children are more likely to eat fruit which is easy to eat and looks fun. Try chopping carrots into batons and peeling fruit such as satsumas and put the pieces in a Baco Rainbow snack bag. The smaller portions are easy to manage and the bags can be resealed for later on.

Bullet Try a variety of breads for sandwiches, including brown, wholemeal, pitta, wraps and rolls.

Bullet Salads are a great change from sandwiches and they are packed with essential vitamins and minerals. Eat a rainbow of colours by using a selection of salad vegetables, including radish, grated carrot, red, yellow and green peppers, it's a great way of ensuring your child is eating a range of vitamins and minerals.

Bullet Replace crisps with cherry tomatoes, cucumber and carrot batons

Bullet Encourage your child to eat a wider variety of fruit by making fruit kebabs using small pieces of kiwi, mango, strawberries, grapes and pineapple.

Bullet Dried fruit can also be included as part of your child's recommended 5-a-day fruit and vegetable portions.
