So it's not an old-wives tale after all! Scientists have now confirmed that men should avoid hot baths if they're hoping to become a Dad. The University of California study found that men who liked taking long baths of half an hour or more, or who took regular Jacuzzis - improved their sperm production as much as fivefold when they switched to showers for three months.
The men involved in the pilot study saw their sperm count rise by an average of 491%. 'It has been believed for decades that wet heat exposure is bad for fertility, but this effect has rarely been documented,' said Dr Paul Turek. 'We now have actual evidence to show patients that these recreational activities are a real risk factor for male infertility.'
