Strollerobics - This Week's Word
Strollerobics (noun) - Aerobics with a stroller. Strollerobics are exercises characteristically performed by new mothers, incorporating strollers that contain their new babies. Stollerobics were invented in the mid-1990s in California.
There are many women (perhaps not your average exhausted new mum) who just want to forget the assault pregnancy has inflicted on their bodies and get back in shape as soon as possible. They see celebrity mothers like Victoria Beckham and want to become a yummy mummy (a slim, gorgeous-looking mum) just like her. She presumably had a personal trainer but if you can't afford that option, then there's always strollerobics! A blend of stroller (the US word for a lightweight pushchair, often called a buggy in British English) and aerobics, this term was invented in California during the mid-nineties, and refers to an exercise routine for new mothers incorporating pushchairs. Mum gets a workout and fresh air and baby gets a ride! Can't beat that!

The USA always takes things just that little bit further than The UK so many areas offer official Strollerobics Classes. I kid you not and I quote.....
"Strollerobics, a fitness program offered throughout America for women and their children up to the age of two, utilizes a stroller for cardiovascular and weight training. Classes help to increase strength, balance and flexibility, while teaching women stroller safety, proper alignment and ways to prevent back pain. Healthy Moms offers the Strollerobics fitness program to clients various days of the week....."
Do you think some people take things a bit too far?
