Coping With Christmas as a Single Mum
Being a single mother isn't the easiest lifestyle to manage at the best of times.

But the extra strain of Christmas could send you over the edge. Not only are the kids on holiday and requiring full-time supervision but you're having to buy hundreds of presents, send out cards, decorate the house and try to make the festive season as special as possible. Plus, this time of year means Christmas parties, celebrations and many opportunities to meet singles, which shouldn't be missed. How can so many different priorities be juggled? Here are a few ideas,

Take Extra Days Off

Don't be dictated to by the school calendar. Taking some holiday either side of Christmas can really help ease the strain. The kids will be at school, shops will be relatively empty and you'll be able to get some of the time-consuming chores out of the way in peace.

Focus on the Kids

The sheer expense of Christmas could have you reaching deep into your pockets this year. And as we know, the pockets of an average single mum don't yield up much spare cash. If you're struggling with finances, talk to the rest of the family and arrange to only buy for the kids. This simple change could save you a fortune. Plus, Christmas should be about the children anyway.

Send in the Grandparents

Grandparents and especially Grandmas will do anything for their Grandchildren and fight tooth and nail to spend some quality time with them. Therefore, if you need some free time, off-load the kids on to your parents as much as you can over Christmas. After all, Christmas is a time for family. Spending the actual day with them will also ease the pressure, meaning cooking and other exhausting chores will be shared between everyone.

Invite the Cousins

Christmas Cousins
When there's another gaggle of kids around, childcare becomes instantly easier. Try to spend Christmas with your siblings, or perhaps your friends, and their children. This way you can work as a team to bring Christmas together whilst your kids have heaps of fun in each other's company.

Find Time to Enjoy Yourself

It's essential that you don't just shop for presents when you find time to yourself. You deserve to enjoy the festivities as well. Join a dating agency for professionals, go Christmas carolling, stay out all night at your office Christmas party - it's essential that you find time to do all this, otherwise the holiday will just be filled with stress with a dash of resentment.

Childcare, parties, gift-shopping - Christmas is probably the busiest time of year for a single mum. But with these tips, hopefully you won't let it get on top of you.
