Rock star Mike Peters of The Alarm is celebrating the arrival of his second son, born from an embryo frozen in 2003. Baby Evan ap Michael Peters arrived on 2 January 2007 at Glan Clwyd hospital at Bodelwyddan. The Alarm singer and wife Jules, from Dyserth, Denbighshire, underwent fertility treatment in 2003 and had their first son Dylan. His younger brother was born after the couple froze another embryo from the same batch of eggs. Baby Evan was born early on Tuesday morning, after the couple first arrived at the hospital on New Year's Eve.
At the end of 2005 the singer was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CCL), a cancer of white blood cells and was undergoing therapy last summer when they learned of the new pregnancy. Peters told the Daily Post: "With the stress of the cancer, the diagnosis and the chemo we knew we had the back-up in the embryo we'd had frozen. The chances of us succeeding were astronomically low. But it worked - he is a real miracle. We were amazed, " he said.
Peters first beat leukaemia 11 years ago, but was diagnosed with CCL in December 2005. He is to begin a new treatment aimed at eradicating the cancer later this month.
