Scientists invent "nit"- busting hairdryer The ritual of covering your child's hair in nit lotion and combing all the little bugs and eggs out of their hair could soon be a thing of the past. Scientists in America have developed a hairdryer that blasts the bugs. Professor Clayton from Utah came up with the idea for the LouseBuster after he found through his day job (investigating lice infestations in births) that in order to keep his samples alive in Utah's dry air he required the use of a humidifier. When his kids came home with nits, he wondered whether his children's lice could be dried to death. The professor's modified hairdryer blows air heated up to 60 degrees C and when used with a special comb kills 80% of lice and 98% of their eggs. The professor's invention is currently being manufactured, and until then he warns parents not to use normal hairdryers on their children's scalps, for fear of causing burns!
