54% of parents don’t defend themselves against catching colds when their kids have one because they feel it’s inevitable they will catch it too
Yet, there are ways to defend oneself. A recent independent survey indicates that 77% of people who used Vicks First Defence Nasal Spray said they did not catch a cold

Going back to school in September means that homework may not be all that comes home with the kids. Children can get up to 10 colds a year, with Autumn / Winter being prime time. Colds germs spread easily in a classroom or nursery. Close contact with other children e.g. sharing food and drink; toys and books; plus lack of basic hygiene e.g. forgetting to cover the mouth and nose when sneezing and coughing or not washing hands regularly, are all likely reasons.

“Unfortunately, cold germs don’t stay at school or the nursery. Kids’ colds not only take their toll on teachers, but on parents too. When one person in the household has a cold, everyone living there is at risk” warns Professor Ron Eccles, Director of the Common Cold Centre, Cardiff University.

Cold Defence

It is commonly thought that you can’t avoid getting a cold especially when living with a sufferer. However, there is a chance to defend against what seems inevitable, even if the virus has already entered the body. Before the viruses can get too well established there is an opportunity to attack it. Research shows there is a 48 hour incubation period, before full-blown symptoms appear, which offers a window in which to inhibit the virus before it takes a strong hold in the nose and throat.

Vicks First Defence Nasal Spray is specially designed to work in this two-day period. It works with the body’s own defence system and has been shown to significantly reduce the chances of developing a full blown cold. Users of the product are very satisfied. In a recent consumer survey 77% of people who used Vicks First Defence Nasal Spray said they didn’t get a cold, while 9 out of 10 users said they were satisfied with the product and felt it met or exceeded their expectations.

How it works

Unlike other cold relief products on the market, Vicks First Defence Nasal Spray does not treat the symptoms of a cold, such as a coughing and congestion; instead it fights the cause - the virus. Vicks First Defence is a unique Micro-Gel nasal spray that contains no drug ingredients. It simply works in a physical way using three key actions, which supplement the body’s natural ability to disarm and remove cold viruses before they take hold.

1. TRAPS - the viscous gel coats the virus so it can’t make contact with the body’s cells

2. DISARMS - the gel’s low pH inactivates the virus (viruses thrive in higher pH environments)

3. REMOVES – working with the body, Vicks First Defence flushes out the nasal passages and washes away the viruses. It also helps to remove them by creating a mild and temporary increase in nasal secretions.

The spray action ensures the Micro Gel reaches the back of the nasal passage where cold viruses first take hold. Once there, the gel’s triple action formula gets to work. Vicks First Defence should be used at the first signs of a cold coming on e.g. scratchy or sore throat, sneezing etc. It can also be taken when at risk of catching a cold e.g. a family member has one or where germs can easily spread, for example on public transport, in the office etc.

Vicks First Defence pioneered a new category by focusing on ‘Cold Defence’ and has is the most effective OTC product to fight cold causing viruses before the cold fully develops.
