Breastfeeding And The Contraceptive Pill
It's safe to take the Mini-Pill when breastfeeding.

The combined (oestrogen plus progestogen) Pill can suppress both the volume of milk and the duration of lactation quite markedly.

Two studies have also shown a decrease in protein, fat and minerals in milk. Small amounts of the synthetic steroids in the Pill also appear in the milk. Isolated reports exist of breast enlargement in male babies. One unconfirmed study showed a correlation between prior use of the Pill and breast milk jaundice.

Many experts recommend only the progestogen-only Pill or Mini-Pill for breastfeeding women.

Your local family planning clinic is worth a visit as they can spend a bit of time with you going through the various options but equally your GP can advise you.
