Clever, refreshing and a little bit silly, a new approach to learning about shapes!

Circle, Triangle, Elephant! A Book of Shapes & Surprises is a playfully deceptive, oversized board book designed to help young readers learn about shapes. Created by Kenji Oikawa and Mayuko Takeuchi, an award-winning husband-and-wife illustration team based in Tokyo.

The book’s unexpected take on shapes offers a breath of fresh air within the well-established toddler concept genre. Circle, Triangle, Elephant’s! bright block-art visuals and rhythmic read-aloud text engages young children with a lively look at usual and unusual shapes.

The board book begins by offering the child familiar forms – a triangle, a circle and a square – and then throws an unexpected (but recognisable) silhouette into the equation. What is an elephant doing in a book about shapes? And is that a lemon? Recognising silhouettes is another form of shape recognition, though for young readers, it serves simply as a good reason to laugh! Circle, Triangle, Elephant! offers a creative and engaging introduction to seeing objects differently and will delight both children and adults alike.

Kenji Oikawa and Mayuko Takeuchi have published over thirty children’s books and are also known for their commercial work in advertising and merchandising. Circle, Triangle, Elephant! marks their first book to be published in English.
