Woman Gives Birth Trapped Underwater in Car
According to CNN, a pregnant woman in Florida gave birth while semi-submerged in a canal after crashing her car. Kenyetta Biggs was driving herself to the labour ward when a very strong contraction caused her to spin the car off the road.As she lay, trapped in the wreckage with a broken leg, with the car partly submerged in a canal, she gave birth to a baby girl. The 21-year-old, who hadn't even told her family that she was pregnant, has called her daughter Miracle after being rescued. Deputy Stephen Maxwell found Kenyetta and the car on his way to work on Sunday: 'As I looked around her ,I saw the newborn baby laying in the passenger seat with the placenta and umbilical cord still attached,' he told reporters.
Poxy Plane
Two air passengers were forced to leave their baby son in Tenerife after the plane's captain refused to let him fly because he had a spot on his head. Ten-month-old Layton Condron was ordered off the My Travel flight to Newcastle at the end of July because of fears he had chicken pox. Parents Chris and Caroline Snaith had to leave him with his grandparents so Mrs Snaith could go to a job interview. A spokesman said: "The airport doctor was unable to confirm the child was not suffering from chickenpox and did not issue a Fit to Fly certificate. Given the contagious nature of this illness, the captain took the necessary measures to ensure the health and well-being of the majority of his passengers." Layton's grandmother said: "She (Caroline) sobbed her eyes out on the plane.. she felt so guilty about leaving her baby behind." Layton's grandparents disembarked and took him to see a paediatrician in a local hospital, and paid £130 for a certificate, which gave him the all-clear. They caught a flight to Manchester the next day and the grandparents are now waiting for an apology from Direct Holidays.
Japan desperately needs more children. The number of births in Japan has increased for the first time in six years. Almost 550,000 births were registered in the six months from January to June, up by more than 11,600 from the same period last year. An increase is good news news for Japan, which recorded its lowest ever birth rate in 2005 - just 1.25 babies per woman. A rate of 2.1 is needed to keep the population level static. The declining birthrate and rising elderly population has led to the government recently introducing measures to encourage women to have more children.
