The magazine, which will be published every quarter, is aimed at any parent whose baby has spent time in neonatal care. It will include features on the health issues related to premature babies, real-life stories from parents and celebrities, news on technological advances in the medical care for these vulnerable infants as well as general interest stories from travel to shopping. Whilst primarily aimed at parents with a child aged 0-5 years, the magazine will also be of interest to health professionals supporting the families of these babies who have spent time in neonatal care.
Premature and sick babies can have very different needs to full term babies. They can experience special health issues such as breathing problems, feeding problems and developmental problems. Little BLISS has been designed specifically to address these issues to help parents feel informed and supported.
Justine Pepperell, Family Support Manager at BLISS, comments, 'Having a baby in neonatal care can be very distressing and Little BLISS is a great way for parents to get the information they need in order to feel supported. Up until now there have been no magazines exclusively for parents of these babies and it will help families to feel less isolated, a feeling which is commonly felt among parents of premature and sick babies '.
Parents can subscribe to Little BLISS at just £2 a month, raising vital funds to support the work the charity does in making sure that more babies born prematurely or sick in the UK survive and that each one has the best quality of life.
BLISS, the premature baby charity, is dedicated to making sure that more babies born prematurely or sick in the UK survive and that each one has the best quality of life. One in eight babies are born premature or sick - that's 80,000 babies every year. Around 17,000 of these babies need intensive care and the figure is rising - more and more babies are born prematurely or have a low birth weight.
