Having had two children and being pregnant with my third, I thought it quite apt to compile a Christmas gift guide for all those new mummies and mothers that are close to the finish line.
It can be hard to get it right but I think the below is a nice mix of the practicality, indulgent and just comforting gifts that will see you through the festive season with a heartfelt smile.
AromaWorks is a luxurious aromatherapy skincare and home fragrance brand made right here in the UK. 100% natural, its’ perfect for skin sensitivities experienced throughout pregnancy such as swelling, relieving aches and pains and can be used even while breastfeeding. The beautiful Serenity Body Indulgence Set contains some of the most useful products for mother and baby. Priced £45 from www.aroma-works.com.
Scholl Velvet Smooth Diamond Collection
It’s often the feet that bear the brunt of pregnancy – whether it’s the weight gain, swelling or common itching. Although it’s part of their Party Feet range, I’d quite happily settle for normal feet so I think this is a good one for partners to buy and treat overworked feet to. Take advantage of an express Pedi, moisture, nail file and when you’re ready to face the world, slip in some gel cushions for comfort. Priced £80 from Boots.
Heir and Grace Candle
Capture the ambience of Christmas and relax with a classic scented candle from Heir and Grace. I’ve fallen for their new scent, Mulled Oranges, a Christmas classic that not only smells welcoming but drifts you into a relaxing haven in your own home, while looking like a stunning centerpiece. Priced £18 (75g for 20 hours burn time) and £36 (200g for 45 hours burn time) from www.heirandgrace.co.uk
Comfort and Practicality
I adore my Boppy! It’s a solid yet comfortable nursing cushion in a doughnut shape that provides that additional cushioning support in the latter stages of pregnancy, but ultimately takes the strain during breastfeeding and then helping baby until they’re able to sit alone. Priced £39.99 from www.boppyworld.com/uk.
Gold Glitter Star Hot Water Bottle
These handmade sparkly glitter hot water bottles are something a little extra special and I love that they can be personalised with an initial of your choice. The faux sheepskin is delightfully soft and comforting throughout the colder winter months. Priced £19 from www.notonthehighstreet.com.
MUM’s Pregnancy & Baby Diary
This is a fantastic keepsake for mums to hold their memories in a safe place from conception up until their child turns one. The chic diary includes special pages to record your entire pregnancy, associated milestones, need to know numbers and a weekly diary. Priced £15.95 from www.mumsoffice.co.uk.
Snuggle up during the winter with these uber comfortable PJs from Mothercare. Kick back and relax in this specially crafted nightwear for a growing body. The checked print is particularly festive and a nice item to include in your hospital bag. Priced £20 from www.mothercare.com
Lace Swing Dress (XS-L)
Adapting to a changing and developing body pre and post pregnancy can be challenging when it comes round to all those festive parties and celebrations, but I can highly recommend this beautiful dress JoJo Maman Bébé. It’s a simple LBD that you can dress up with accessories time and time again and the stretchy material provides smooth lines and comfort, while the pretty lace detail adds a hint of class and panache. Priced £39 from www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk
The Mexican Bola is a chiming pendant traditionally worn by pregnant women to bond with their unborn babies. Worn low over Mummy’s growing bump, this is a nice enchanting gift for mums-to- be this Christmas. Priced £29 from www.blooming-lovely-jewellery.co.uk.
Pink Lining Change Bag
Forget the designer handbags, it’s all about the change bag you’re toting and these gorgeous change bags are certainly a fantastic choice. Mama et Bebe is centred on a French inspired slogan and funky pram design surrounded by a signature floral/feminine colourful print. Not all style over substance, they are roomy and contain all your change bag essentials such as change mat, bottle holder and waterproof holders. Priced £79 from www.pinklining.com.
Celebration Food and Drink
While the alcohol usually flows over the festive season, pregnant and nursing mothers shouldn’t feel left out as there’s so much on offer and thanks to Shloer you can even enjoy some bubbles in eleven refreshing flavours including new additions Celebration Pink Fizz, and Celebration White Bubbly. Priced £2.99 (75cl) from supermarkets nationwide.
Bottlegreen’s range of flavoursome pressés and tonics have some new additions this Christmas with flavours such as Cotswold Lemonade and Mint and Grapefruit and Honeysuckle to add a little something different to your usual tipple. They’re fun for getting experimental with some mocktails! Priced £1.69 (500ml) from Tesco and Waitrose.
OK so this is a super indulgent one but I just HAD to include it. Imagine 1kg of the finest chocolate, this chocolate Santa is a striking gift made from Lindt’s velvety smooth milk chocolate. I can’t say much more than it tastes even better than you can hope, although probably too much for one sitting! Priced £39.99 from www.lindt.co.uk.
If grazing is more your thing then Walkers shortbread always hits the spot. Any excuse to dig in is welcome by me. This festive fave hits the spot with a new fun wobbly Santa tin filled with delicious mini shortbread stars. Priced £8 from www.walkersshortbread.com.
Aden + Anais Musy Squares
Muslin cloths are an absolutely invaluable asset to any new parent. Better still, if you’re cleaning up sick or dribble then why not do it in style with these adorable Aden + Anais musys. Super soft, I have stocked up on the funky Jungle Jam Musy Squares but take a good look at the wide choice available, and with some new Disney designs coming up, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Priced £19.95 for a pack of 3 from www.uk.adenandanais.com
Brought to you by a mum of two, Lil' Cubs is an independent online baby shop bringing bright bold patterns to newborns and toddlers. Their muslins and swaddles are to-die-for. Forget pinks and blues, Lil'Cubs' swaddles, bibs, muslins and sleepsuits are perfect for both boys and girls and great for handing down to your next cub. What new mum wouldn't like their funky muzzies?!
If you really aren't sure what to get, then I'm fairly sure there aren't many new mums out there who wouldn't appreciate a gift voucher from BuyAGift. I'd love to have one of the Spa Days or Afternoon Tea Vouchers - who wouldn't?! We mums so rarely treat ourselves to Me-Time so the gift of a voucher would be simply perfect. To be honest I may even use the site to buy some 'experiences' for other members of the family too!
The Present Tree
Another website you can’t go wrong with when looking for a gift for new parents is The Present Tree. They sell trees which are hand reared, 100% eco-friendly and prices start from from £32. The Silver Birch Tree (£35) symbolises ‘new beginnings and protection’ so a very apt gift for new mums and dads. It can be planted on a balcony in a pot, or in a garden and will grow to full height. Engravable plaques are available so a child’s name can be engraved next to the tree for just £20.
I can't imagine there's a 'New Mum' out there who wouldn't love a personalised photo book with pics of her new baby. Albelli do great photo books which are really simple to create online. (If I can do it then anyone can!) I'm also ordering a few personalised photo calendars with pics of my little ones to give to the grandparents this Christmas and I'm fairly sure that once the new baby is here we'll be doing the same next year too. Albelli's beautiful photo-books are a great way to treasure your precious memories and giving a personalised gift always adds a more individual touch I think......
