The Babybjorn Bouncer Balance Soft

The Babybjorn Bouncer Balance Soft
Most people know Babybjorn for its child carriers, but they also do a select number of other products including a bouncy seat aptly called the Bouncer Balance Soft.

The chair was originally designed back in 1961 and despite a few updates, it hasn't really changed much in appearance or functionality other than some funky new colours and enhanced comfort with newer materials now available. I guess once you find a formula that works there’s little needed to change it!

Recently I was sent the Babybjorn Bouncer Balance Soft to review with my youngest so excitedly unwrapping it, it took me the best part of five seconds to set up as it comes in one piece (yay!) taking the stress out of using a manual and numerous tools.

In essence this seat is exactly as it says on the box - a baby chair. There’s no music, vibrations, or dangly bits, it is a chair with the one aim to seat your baby in comfort while they rest or play. It comes with a choice of three settings - sleep, relax and play which are interchangeable via a catch at the back of the chair. I really liked the option to have baby sat high up, because unlike many baby chairs and swings its more upright which for older babies they appreciate as they have a better viewpoint of the room. The seat itself is ergonomically shaped and constructed out of a very soft fabric with reinforced padding so there are no hard bits and your child's weight is evenly distributed for maximum comfort.

The simple harness fits snugly round the child’s waist but with plenty of leg room so that they don't feel too constrained. Its hidden under a soft padding so there’s no risk of baby messing with the clip or getting their little fingers caught up in it. As they get older the harness is an optional extra as the chair can be converted to more of a toddler-style seat. As a bouncer the motion is controlled wholly by the child. As your child moves and bounces, the chair has adequate suspension to continue the light rocking motion. They quickly recognise that they have this power, and can depending on their mood can either sit calmly or enjoy a bounce.

It is recommended for use from six months up to around two years so it doesn't have the longevity some of the latest chairs promote, however in my experience I’ve found my two year old has little interest for baby chairs now and prefers to copy the ‘grown ups’.

The bouncer is available is a range of colours from simple black to a brighter burnt orange. On appearance the chair is definitely a sleek piece of kit and without all the crazy attachments many chairs/rockers/bouncers are known for, it somehow manages to look pretty stylish in a living room making it particularly suitable for any parents that are keen to keep just a tiny portion of their home looking like it hasn't been taken over by children! Other plus points include the machine washable fabric - great for spills and general mess. It also dries very quickly making it suitable for when you need a quick turnaround. The chair can also be folded flat making it suitable for transporting or just storing away.

The Babybjorn Bouncer Balance Soft is available from Mothercare costing £119.99. For more information on Babybjorn and their products visit www.babybjorn.co.uk.
