New make up brands always invoke a flurry of excitement, but they have to deliver something a little different to have lasting appeal. The new range created by Louise Redknapp and Kim Jacob, seems to do just that. Not only are the soft, natural shades in the collection supremely wearable (both Louise and Kim are busy – albeit glamorous - mums who know that heavy make-up is a no-no on the school run) but all the products in the range contain real skincare benefits too. Botanical fruit and plant extracts, Vitamin E and anti-inflammatory actives all deliver skin-loving and anti-ageing qualities plus there are no parabens or petrochemicals in the range, so you know that what you’re smearing on is actually doing your complexion some good. I’ve tried - and loved - the Ultra Sheer Powder Blush, £17.50 and Powder Eyeshadows, £14 each. They contain antioxidant (and therefore anti-ageing) Vitamins C, E and soothing Aloe Vera and – if I’m not
BENEFIT BEAUTYWe all love a visit to a Benefit make-up counter. Everything’s so prettily packaged and perfectly darling. Trouble is, we want it all, don’t we? Satisfy your cravings for lots of their lovely stuff with one of these new sets for Autumn packed full of scaled-down-sized versions of your favourites. I love the ‘She’s So Jetset!’ collection which contains a 4-shade eyeshadow palette, cheek powders, lip gloss plus best-selling primer the POREfessional and ‘they’re real!’ mascara. Pop it in your handbag/baby bag and it covers all your needs. What more could a girl want?
IF IT’S GOOD ENOUGH FOR BABY….A recent survey by Asda found that mums are shunning expensive beauty brands and using their baby’s beauty products instead – saving themselves up to 300% by swapping designer potions for baby lotions.95% of parents use baby talcum powder, baby oil and baby shampoo as part of their beauty routine – and I certainly sneaked my boys’ baby bath and lotion when they were tiny, too. “Baby products are known to be gentler on skin – so if you suffer from allergies, they can be a great alternative option to medicated products,” says Ali Carswell, from Asda Baby.
The new Baby Bee range from Burt’s Bees is a case in point. I defy any mum not to want to smother themselves in the gorgeous Original Buttermilk Lotion, £8.99 or Nourishing Baby Oil, £9.99 as they pamper baby’s body with the stuff. They smell buttery and sweet and sink into the skin leaving it feel (almost) as soft as baby’s. Cusson’s ‘Mum & Me’ is another new range which caters for those of us who like to keep down the cost. There’s lots for mum – including a Stretch Mark Fader and Skip A Wash Dry Shampoo for extra hectic days, but the baby range is just as interesting for mums. I love the Sleep Tight Baby Bath made with lavender, just £2.99 for 500ml. Delicately
Lastly, I have to tell you about DGJ (Daniel Galvin Junior) Organic Wild 'n' Crazy Kids Swim Shampoo & Body Wash. It does a great job in the shower on my son after his swimming lessons, but I have to confess to sneaking it too because it also helps neutralise the harmful effects of chlorine on my own hair after a dip in the pool. It’s £3.99 from Waitrose. by Kim Jones - TheBabyWebsite Beauty Editor October 2012 Share This... | ||||||||
