Top Breastfeeding Tips
Top tips from breastfeeding expert Sally Tedstone on how to make your breastfeeding experience more enjoyable:

Bullet  Try and let your baby breastfeed as soon as you are both ready after the birth;
Bullet  Lots of skin to skin contact will help stimulate your baby to smell you and begin to feed;
Bullet  Breastfeeding is thirsty work so always have a glass of water next to you when you begin;
Bullet  It’s a good idea to have everything you might need during a breastfeed on a little tray with your water, your phone, your TV remote, your toddler’s favourite
book, tissues, muslin sheet all to hand so you don’t have to disrupt the feed;
Bullet  If you have cracked nipples use medical grade lanolin cream to promote moist wound healing;
Bullet  If you are worried about breastfeeding in public, either wear a breastfeeding top or use a muslin sheet or scarf to cover up. (Remember most people don’t notice breastfeeding mums);
Bullet  There are also many cafes and shops who have pledged to support breastfeeding mothers so ask your midwife about local spots to breastfeed in;
Bullet  If you are experiencing any problems or are worried, please contact your health visitor who should be able to help you or put you in touch with your local breastfeeding support group.
