Beauty For Mums
Kim Jones shows you what's new this week in the world of sun-care and make-up...

Sun-Care That Cares

It's great to see the sun show it's face so early in the year, but don't forget that your skin can become even more sensitive to the sun during pregnancy “a side effect of all those hormonal changes going on in your body“ so it's really important to protect yourself from harmful rays.
Korres sun protection
Lying in the sun for hours is not advisable anyway, especially in the first trimester, and avoiding the sun's peak- between 10am and 4pm - is sensible in really hot weather. However, if you are going to be out and about into the sun for any length of time, it's best to cover up and use sun protection. When I was pregnant, I opted for organic and natural sunscreens. A new range from Greek skincare company Korres, launching this month, is free from silicones, parabens, synthetic dyes and paraffin wax and packed with natural ingredients like yoghurt, walnut, coconut and shea butter. The Sunscreen Face Cream with Yoghurt, from £16.50 comes in SPF30 and 50 and the Sunscreen Face-&-Body Emulsion with Yoghurt, from £18 is available in SPF20, 30 and 50.
Korres Sunscreen Face Cream with Yoghurt
Both are ideal for sensitive skins and disappear into the skin well. The Clear Sunscreen Body with Walnut & Coconut, SPF20, £20.00 comes in a transparent formula and is billed as being ideal for those of us who love water sports, so I'm guessing this means it's waterproof. I'll test it out and let you know when the water gets a little warmer later in the year! Little ones' needs are not forgotten, either. Sunscreen Emulsion for Children with Shea Butter, SPF 50, £22.00 comes in an easy-to-use moisturising spray. It contains organic Aloe extract, Calendula and Chamomile to help avoid sun-caused irritations like the dreaded prickly heat.

Supermarket Beauty Sweep

If your life as a brand new mum is anything like mine was, a relaxed shopping trip !
George 'Hint of Tint'
to the beauty counters at a swish department store was a rare occurrence. My makeup buys were, instead, hastily selected in the supermarket whilst I was dashing around with baby in tow, stocking up on necessities like baby wipes and bibs So I've been really pleased to recently see our supermarket giants tastefully upping their game in the make-up stakes so even busy new mums can grab some glamour on the go. George at Asda have this month revamped their range of make up and introduced new lines, too. The well-priced products are reminiscent of much higher cost cult-brand favourites.
George High Lite Stick
Take their High Lite Stick for cheeks, £5, for example. It's George's version of NARS The Multiple, but at less than a quarter of the price. Also new to the range is Hint of Tint, £5, a tinted moisturizer with SPF15, which is George's answer to Benefit's iconic You Rebel. It comes in light or medium and evens out summer skin tone for a natural healthy glow. Check out their other revamped little beauties, too - including Cheeky Tint, £3.50, a liquid tint blush for cheeks and lips in two shades - Rose and Pink Blossom.

Crayons - For Mums Only!

I am always excited to see what's new in the world of Clinique make-up. And these fun new additions to their spring/summer range didn't fail to raise a smile on my lips. Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Balm, £13.50 is a cute lip colour that comes in a plump twist-up crayon-type contraption (think toddler's first crayons and you'll know what I mean).
Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Balm
It's easy to apply on the go (even without a mirror, honestly!) and provides a sheer hint of colour and sheen, which you can build up to a stronger shade. What's more, it's moisturising enough to mean that, even if you're a serious lip salve addict like me, you can go without it thanks to the Chubby Stick's emollient ingredients including mango seed butter and jojoba seed oil. It comes in eight shades ranging from pretty pinks and nudes to richer fig and grape tones. Available at all Clinique counters now - just make sure your little ones don't get their hands on them first. For your nearest stockist call 0870 034 2566 or buy online at www.clinique.co.uk
