Parents` Week 2006
Parents' Week is the National Family and Parenting Institute's flagship event to galvanise interest in the role of parents and what they need to do the best for their children. Each year many organisations working with families throughout the country take part in events to promote their services and launch new initiatives.
This year's Parents' Week, based round the theme Happy Families? Supporting Parents and Strengthening Families will build upon the successes of previous years and we hope that it will be the biggest and best yet.

Parents' Week 2006 will highlight the importance of families. Now in its seventh year Parents' Week has been established as a way of getting families right up there at the top of the political agenda nationally and locally. Designed with local practitioners in mind, the campaign theme for this year is Happy Families. We hope you will find our Parents' Week resource pack helpful in planning and running your events.
In previous years organisations around the UK have put on fun, informative, engaging and participative activities throughout the week, ranging from information stalls in shopping centres to workshops, parenting cafes, or activities organised by parents for parents. A wide range of organisations become involved including:
Libraries
Sure Start Projects
Family Centres
Children's Information Services
Schools
Prisons
Museums and galleries
Community and voluntary organisations
We want to make Parents' Week 2006 the best yet. With the theme 'Happy Families?' the focus is on relationships, the bedrock of families and communities. It is an important theme. The materials we have provided in the pack we hope will enable people to think about the journeys families make, the pitfalls or hazards that get in the way, and where signposts or maps can provide necessary help and support.
Inside the free resource pack you will find a range of informative tips and fact sheets, suggestions for activities and other materials to help make the week work for you, and get families involved.
We hope you will get involved with us and help to make this a great week for families!
