Muslim Baby Names

Muslim Baby Names
Choosing your child's name is often difficult, so we have put together some of the most popular Muslim baby names and meanings to help you choose.

Baby names from a variety of origins are listed here, including Indian, Pakistani, Arab and African names.

The name you choose for your baby is something that will be used to identify them for the rest of their life. You should also never forget that the name given to a baby is their first gift in life, so take care to choose baby names that have pleasant and beautiful meanings just like the Prophet (SAW) did.

Parents name their children to distinguish them from others. According to Hadith a child must be named promptly on birth. The baby name must be meaningful. The prophet (PBUH) was very particular about the meaning of the name and he always changed names that were derogatory, one example is changing Aasiyah (disobedient) into Jameelah (beautiful).

Your baby must not be given the name of Allah unless it is compounded with Allah.

Furthermore Muslim parents must make sure that the names they select for their baby signify servitude to Allah alone and to no one else. They mustn't be linked even to the name Nabi. Names that signify love or romance mustn't be used either. The Prophet suggested names of the Prophets or Abdullah and Abdur Rahman, saying "Keep the names of the noble Prophets, Allah loves most the names Abdullah and Abdur Rahman. The most truthful names are Harith and Humam, while the most disliked are Harb and Murrah (war and bitter)."

We would like to advise you that the Muslim baby names and meanings found on TheBabyWebsite have been sourced from all over the world. We can't guarantee the accuracy of the baby names and meanings listed on the site. We suggest and recommend that before you make any decision on your baby's names that you should first check their meanings with the Imam at your local mosque.
