Top UK celebrities are supporting the Wall of Life, an interactive campaign launched by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT). The Wall of Life (www.walloflife.org.uk) is an online mosaic created from photos that people post on the site, in support of organ donation and is supported by many celebrities including Noel Edmonds, Bill Bailey, Will Carling, David Gower and Trisha Goddard amongst others. These photos will all be combined and go to make up the image of two-year old Louisa McGregor-Smith whose life was saved by a heart transplant during 2007. Louisa was only five months old. At least 60,000 people need to upload their photos on to the Wall in order to build Louisa's image.
The Wall of Life has been created as part of a national campaign which will highlight the constant need for donor organs in the UK. More than 10,000 people currently need a transplant operation, of whom over 1,000, equivalent to three per day, will die each year while waiting for an organ.
TV Presenter Trisha Goddard said:"Knowing that after I'm gone I can help others to have the chance of living a life as blessed and full as mine actually makes me feel very important. If you have the gift of giving someone else a fighting chance, why not use it? Sign up now."
Samantha, Louisa's mother, added; "We are so grateful that our baby girl was given a second chance and are keen that everyone knows the good that comes out of signing up to the NHS Organ Donation Register."
