Mums to be up and down the country are embracing what is arguably the best US import to hit the UK if you’re pregnant - the baby shower. Women from all over the UK were surveyed to identify the top dos and don’ts for the perfect baby shower so you can celebrate an imminent arrival in style.
Baby Shower Dos and Don’ts
DON’T invite any men. The British baby shower is strictly girls only with 74% of women agreeing that a baby shower should be a man free zone. Only 2% strongly disagreed and thought men should also be able to attend.
DO make sure you invite plenty of mums. 79% of mums to be admitted that another mother has bought them the best baby shower gift. Only 15% of mums to be had been bought their best gift by a friend.
DON’T buy the expectant lady clothes. 23 % of mums to be said this would be their least favourite gift. Alcohol (9%), nappies (13%) and toys (14%) were also unpopular choices.
DO select a gift that benefits both mum and baby. 41 % of mums said their perfect baby shower gift would be baby clothes. Nursery equipment was a close second (32%).
DON’T spend lots of money on a gift, it’s not necessary. 58% of guests spend up to £30 with 21% spending up to £50.
DO make sure you stock up on non-alcoholic drinks and lots of tasty canapés to nibble on.
DO spend time on the guest list, 69% of party guests cited this as the most important factor for a great baby shower making it the perfect excuse for a get together! British baby showers are a more traditional affair than their American counterparts; just 3 % of guests thought a fun theme was important and only 9% thought fun games should be played.
