This is only £3 down on last year, because parents are looking to slash the cost of Christmas by spending less on festive decorations. The majority of youngsters will receive presents worth between £50 and £100, while 22% will be given gifts worth £100 to £150. 15% of children will receive presents priced from £25 to £50. 5% of youngsters will have more than £300 spent on them.
Researchers have found a link between premature babies and mothers who have suffered stress before they became pregnant. A new study monitored more than a million mothers in Denmark and found those women who had been under stress for six months before falling pregnant were at a higher risk of giving birth to a premature baby. Previously, studies had tended to focus on the effects of stress during pregnancy, not before conception. Scientists think the effects of stress hormones in the womb could be responsible for premature birth.

Fertile women prefer a man with a deep voice like George Clooney because a deep voice is a sign of health, dominance and good genes. Young mums however are more attracted to the squeakier David Beckham. The Harvard University study also found that men preferred higher pitched female voices, which is seen as a preference for fertility.
