The Sleepeasy Solution

Jill Spivack and Jennifer Waldburger are two of America’s leading experts on children and sleep.

Co-founders of the LA based Sleepy Planet clinic, the two psychotherapists advise numerous parents, including many Hollywood stars, on programmes guaranteed to help their children sleep.

'The Sleepeasy Solution: The exhausted parent’s guide to getting your child to sleep – from birth to 5' brings together Jill and Jennifer’s expertise and experience to offer an organised, fail-proof plan that ensures brilliant results – usually in less than five nights.

Key to its success is Jill and Jennifer’s `least-cry’ approach that involves finding a balance between allowing your child to learn how to sleep, while lovingly supporting her in the process. Their recipe for successful sleep learning – meaning that children learn to sleep quickly with a minimum of crying – contains two important ingredients:

1. A simple, customised sleep plan that includes step-by-step instructions for scheduling, environmental changes, and helping children change their sleep behaviour, and –

2. Plenty of support around the emotional aspects of teaching a child to sleep (and some inevitable frustration), to help children continue to feel loved, and to help parents remain consistent as their child learns.

The Sleepeasy Solution
Aimed at exhausted parents, The Sleepeasy Solution is written in an accessible and easy-to-follow style. Set out over ten chapters, the book opens by looking at the vital importance of sleep for the whole family and goes on to provide the “nuts and bolts” information that will set parents on the path to success.

Later chapters discuss issues including crying and napping, as well as discussing alternative methods for sleep learning, that may appeal to some parents who are happy to take things more slowly. Three central chapters on the book explain how a child’s development effects sleep at different ages. The book concludes with a chapter addressing “special situations” such as twins and multiple births, colic and reflux, moving a child from a cot to a bed and coping with illness, teething and travel.
