Pregnancy is such an exciting time, but while you’re busy preparing for your new arrival don’t forget to treat yourself with a bit of extra love and care too. It’s not always easy to stay comfortable when you have a growing bump; skin tends to become more sensitive, not only because of hormones but because it thins and stretches as your baby grows. But who better to advise you than mums who have been through it themselves?
Nikki Reeves, mum of two from Derbyshire suggests looking for one or two really lovely items of maternity wear. “The priority should be comfort, but you can get some really comfortable maternity clothes that still look good.” If you choose the right fabrics, soft natural fibres like cotton are gentle on sensitive skin, and take good care of them, a few favourite items should last your whole pregnancy. To save money you could try borrowing maternity clothes from friends and family to mix and match with your new items.
Now that you’re pregnant you might not feel like going out so much. Lisa Blackburn, mum to Lydia and Georgia says “I didn’t realise that I would feel so tired when I was pregnant, I didn’t really feel like going out, I loved coming home and snuggling up in my pyjamas”. Why not put on your comfiest clothes and settle down with your partner on the sofa, or if you feel like you’re missing out on socialising why not invite your friends round for a girls’ night in?
You may find you need more sleep when you’re pregnant, but as your baby grows you may find it difficult to get comfy. Lisa found a special v shaped pillow helped her sleep when she was pregnant, plus she says “It was great for breast feeding too”.
Both mums agree that the best thing you can do to stay comfortable when you’re pregnant is to get plenty of rest. So put household tasks on the back burner and try to relax and enjoy this special time.

PS. Editorial Afterthought....
Nikki and Lisa are 'Comfort-eers' and belong to Comfort Pure’s army of mums so it's safe to assume their tips on getting comfortably through pregnancy are genuine. They suggest using a fabric conditioner that’s specially designed for sensitive skin like Comfort Pure. Comfort Pure is hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested, plus its skincare research is validated by the British Skin Foundation. In all honesty, other than the Tesco own brand natural range 'Tesco Naturally', Comfort Pure is the only one I'll use in our house!! We all itch like mad otherwise! |
