'Pregnancy and Birth' is the new release by Relax Music, a company specialising in musical relaxation and hypnosis recordings.

Music has a powerful effect on the body and mind and is especially useful during pregnancy when you need a natural and safe method of relaxation.

With this in mind, Relax Music set out to create something that would be effective and pleasing to listen to, using contemporary sounds.
The CD has been produced using state of the art digital recording processes but is gentle and organic in its sound. It is recorded at 60 beats per minute, which is the optimum heart rate for a resting mother. The aim of the CD is to bring your heart rate and breathing in time with the music, thus calming mother and baby together.

Listening to the restful music could lower your blood pressure, and put you in a more positive state of mind.

A baby can hear sounds in the womb from 20 weeks after conception, and research shows that they can remember songs played to them for up to twelve months after birth. Therefore, if you play the CD during pregnancy, once the baby is born the familiar sounds can have the effect of calming and soothing the baby, reducing crying and irritability. It's good for calming stressed parents too!

Listening during labour potentially has the ability to reduce anxiety and in this way lessen pain. Several studies have shown a link between listening to soothing music and pain relief.
