How can I avoid food poisoning and diarrhoea when travelling?

Food poisoning and diarrhoea can seem even worse when you are pregnant.

Try to restrict travel to areas with high standards of hygiene. Drink only bottled mineral water; never use tap water even for cleaning your teeth. Check food is cooked thoroughly, and avoid salad, shellfish, ice, and dairy products that may not be pasteurised (e.g. certain types of milk, cheese or ice cream).
