Made Fair, Play Fair, Buy Fair! With fair trade fortnight approaching 25th February – 9th March 2008 awareness should be raised so people make an informed choice about what they are buying and why shopping ethically benefits every one. By purchasing Fair trade you are supporting families to earn the right for decent working conditions, a regular fair income and elevate themselves from extreme poverty to provide for there family and community. This is priceless to the creators of Kenana Critters.
These gorgeous Kenana Critters, individually knitted animals by a fair trade women’s cooperative in Kenya, are a perfect representation of supporting and believing we can make a difference. These beautifully handcrafted toys are knitted and personally labelled by different women within the group giving each one a unique character. With their ethical credentials and heart warming story, they are sure to be a hit with every one.The cooperative was started in 1998 to help rural women find a much needed form of income and build secure futures for their families. Utilising their amazing spinning and knitting skills, the group uses home spun wool which is produced locally and dyed using natural plant extracts, all of which are grown in their own garden.
There processes and materials are all environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable. Producing Kenya Kritters enables these women to support the fair trade farming community and help improve the overall standard of living in the region.
