Can I Find Out the Sex of my Baby?
An ultrasound scan at around 18-20 weeks can usually determine the sex of your baby.

Ultrasound scans or sonograms transmit high-frequency sound waves through the uterus and an image of your baby is translated onto a screen. The first scan you have is usually done around 10-13 weeks into the pregnancy and is done to check your baby is developing normally.

The second scan at 18-20 weeks and will normally show the sex of your baby but it can be difficult to tell if your baby is lying in an awkward position so it might not be 100% accurate.

Some hospitals now have a policy of not telling patients the sex of their baby. If this applies to you and you want to find out you may be able to pay privately for a scan. Your sonographer or your midwife will be able to tell you more.
