Pregnancy At 14 Weeks
If you are 14 weeks pregnant then you are in your Second Trimester.

Your baby will be around 16 centimetres long and will weigh around 0.30lbs. Your baby is already fully formed and believe it or not even has tiny fingerprints. Baby's tiny bones are hardening and in a couple of weeks time he or she will start to react to sounds.

If you've been suffering from Morning Sickness then at this stage most of the sickness and tiredness will start to pass and if you're lucky, you'll start 'blooming'! Many women wait until around Week 14 before they start telling their family and friends their 'news' and once other people know about your pregnancy it becomes even more exciting. Your tummy will start to grow noticeably week by week as the baby gets bigger and the chances are that once you've passed the Week 14 mark, you will feel much more relaxed about your pregnancy.

Stretchmarks at 14 Weeks Pregnant

As your Bump increases in size, it's not a bad idea to get into the habit of moisturising the skin on your belly well. You can't actually stop stretchmarks appearing but moisturising generally increases the skin's suppleness and so makes any stretchmarks less noticeable. Ask your partner to rub cream into your bump! This will make him feel that he has a more active role to play in your pregnancy and possibly stop him from feeling a bit left-out.

By Week 14 you should have had your first ante-natal appointment at
pregnancy week 14
the hospital and had your bloods done to check for HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis, Rubella, Bloods Group and antibodies.

It's a good idea to keep fit as regular exercise can not only prepare you for your labour but can also relieve the everyday aches and pains many pregnant women get from the increased pressure on your body. Swimming, yoga, dancing and walking are all safe to do while you are pregnant.

At this stage in your pregnancy, your baby's sex organs are continuing to develop although an ultrasound scan still cannot tell you for definite whether you are having a boy or a girl.

Your Diet at 14 Weeks Pregnant

You should try to increase the amount of protein in your diet now as it is recommended that you have an additional 5g of protein every day during the last 2 trimesters - this is about the same as a pint of semi-skimmed milk. You should ideally too, drink a glass of fruit juice each day so that you get enough vitamin C. Now that your baby's nervous system is well developed, you can stop taking your folic acid supplements.
