D'oh Is Fave TV Catchphrase

D'oh Is Fave TV Catchphrase
'D'Oh!' is the nation's favourite children's television catchphrase, according to TheBabyWebsite's most recent poll

Homer Simpson's classic curse, which was written as 'annoying grunt' in the show's script, was first used in a short episode on the Tracey Ullman show in 1989.

It soon became his trademark and is occasionally used by other characters Bart, Lisa and Grampa.

'Doh!' was even added into The New Oxford Dictionary of English in 1998 with the definition 'used to comment on an action perceived as foolish or stupid' - and was added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2001.

In our massive poll of poll of 7,431 adults, TV fans placed Fred Flintstone's 'Yabba Dabba Doo!' in second.

Third place went to the Dalek's famous catchphrase 'Exterminate!' from legendary BBC sci-fi show Doctor Who.

We were really surprised by how many of the catchphrases have really stood the test of time.

Fred's Flintstone's catchphrase, which was originally derived from the Brylcreem advertising jingle motto "A Little Dab'll Do Ya!", was heard regularly during the six years The Flintstones series was aired in the sixties.

The Dalek's aggressive electronic screech is recognised by children and adults alike.

Captain Kirk's "Beam me up, Scotty!" in Star Trek was fourth. The command is spoken by Captain Kirk when he needs his transporter chief Scotty to transport him back to the ship.

The Chuckle Brothers - Paul and Barry - for saying 'To me, to you' - was fifth. The slapstick comedy ChuckleVision usually involves the brothers undertaking a task or adventure, which then goes wrong.

Yabba Dabba Doo - it's the Flintsones
The brothers have a number of other catchphrases including 'Course it is, silly me" -"Silly you" and "Oh dear" followed by "Oh dear, oh dear". He-Man's "By the power of Grayskull!" takes sixth place in the poll.

The A Team has two catchphrases in the top 10 - Hannibal's "I love it when a plan comes together" comes seventh whilst Mr T's "I pity the fool!" comes ninth. Fandabidozi" by the Krankies, and "What's up Doc?" by Bugs Bunny completes the top 10.
